Welcome to Purple Nikon Creative Photography.

When I was a small child, my favorite book was Harold and the Purple Crayon. The story is all about uninhibited imagination, and its pursuant creativity. Using his purple crayon, and his imagination, four year old Harold was able to create a world of his own, simply by drawing it. He then enters the world of his own creation, and has many adventures.

It’s been a long time since I was a small child, but Harold and the Purple Crayon is still one of my favorite books. Becoming an adult does not mean one must abandon one’s childlike sense of wonder. We were born creative. Yet, regrettably, in the process of growing up, many have lost their sense of wonder and fascination.

Consider the following notable observations regarding the creative process:

“To stimulate creativity, one must develop the childlike inclination for play and the childlike desire for recognition.”
Albert Einstein

“The creation of something new is not accomplished by the intellect but by the play instinct acting from inner necessity. The creative mind plays with the objects it loves.”
Carl Jung

“Conditions for creativity are: to be puzzled; to concentrate; to be born everyday.”
Erich Fromm

Today, my camera has replaced my crayon. Of course, it is not really a purple camera, at least not until I can convince the designers at Nikon Inc. to build me an actual Purple Nikon. Now there is a creative challenge. Until then, I’ll use my metaphorically Purple Nikon to express my artistic vision through my photography. Click on

Once again, welcome.
